It was back to ‘tournament’ winning ways for Ali Farag as he captured the crown at the CIB Egyptian Open. The win was a the realisation of a long held dream for Farag, to capture a title in front of the great Pyramids.
we have always dreamt of being on such a stage in front of the Pyramids
It was third time lucky for Farag having lost in the final here twice before. However, there was nothing stopping him this time time around as he registered a convincing 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-4) win over compatriot Tarek Momen in just 48 minutes.
“It was pretty emotional, what an occasion to be able to capture here,” Farag said.
“As I have said after every match, we have always dreamt of being on such a stage in front of the Pyramids and to be able to win it at the third time of trying, it is an amazing feeling, especially coming up against one of the greatest players on tour at the moment in Tarek.
It is an extra special result for Farag as well as he returns to sit upon the top of the pyramid once again as the world No. 1 and the best player in Men’s Squash. The official November PSA ranking will update with Farag at the fore front.
Farag will be in action at the next PSA World Tour event – the Qatar Classic – which will take place between November 1-7 at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha, Qatar.
